A National Forest Plantation since 2002

Take a deep breath. Feel the nature of Barton Park Wood.

Welcome to Barton Park Wood. In 2002 the owners of Barton Park Farm, Mr and Mrs Mycock, entered 45.85ha of their farm into the National Forest Tender Scheme. This was a unique scheme that enabled anyone to compete for funds to create new woodland. The creation of the woodland included substantial tree planting, community participation, new and improved public access, enhancing and creating wildlife habitats and development of recreational facilities. The National Forest Company and the Forestry Commission jointly funded the National Forest Tender Scheme. The National Forest Company discontinued the Tender Scheme in 2008 and replaced it with the Changing Landscapes Scheme. Details can be found at www.nationalforest.org

Acres of unspoiled nature

Access to the public is provided throughout the woodland and along the grass rides. We hope that you enjoy your visit to Barton Park Wood but request that you keep your dogs on a lead and observe the Country Code.

Diverse wildlife within reach

There are some very enjoyable walks around Barton Park Wood especially around the pool where there are ducks and coots and water lilies to admire. It is so quiet and peaceful and relaxing to spend time wandering around the Wood.

Highly valued nature reserve

Residents of Barton under Needwood have thoroughly enjoyed using the pathways through the plantation ever since 2002 and found the woods to be an important asset for supporting their health and wellbeing.

4 miles of walking trails

There are lots of permissive pathways to discover which all converge in the middle of the Wood. If you wend your way around all of them you will cover almost four miles which is very beneficial for your daily exercise routine.
